Introduction to mediumship

Written and published with permission by Rev Carol Crawford-Kerr ©

Welcome to my mediumship and psychic development introduction series of mini lessons and interactive exercises, for you to explore the first step on your own path to spiritual unfoldment and the development of your own psychic abilities. Over the coming sessions we will explore the realms of the soul, so you may begin to explore and understand your own spiritual development and mediumship.

Have you ever considered that you are much more than this personality? You are a spiritual being having a very short physical experience. You are a conscious expression of the divine creator. Whatever term you use to describe this power really does not matter. It is the essence of this power that we are continually looking to gain understanding of and how this expresses itself within our everyday lives.

Mediumship is not a gift, it is the one aspect that makes you a whole being. Mediums work hard to develop their skills like any other craft. We all must serve our apprenticeship. I was born with the ability to see the spiritual realms and have devoted the last nineteen years, to the development of the skill. I use this word quite deliberately, because psychic development is an apprenticeship, that all budding mediums will have to undertake, if they wish to develop and become a solid and grounded medium, who can last the test of time.

If you try to rush ahead then you run the risk like anything else of burning out. Besides if you are always in a hurry to get to the finish line, then you will probably miss a lot of the fun of the race and that would be a shame, because of the sacred nature of what you are developing. This is your own path to enlightenment and I bet that in truth you won’t want to miss a single minute.

Now that I have introduced myself and we know each other a little better, let’s take a look at this introduction. The first thing we need to explain are the different styles of mediumship that you will be working on developing.

The term medium simply means the vessel or instrument through which the spiritual realms transfer their information. You are really no more than an instrument receiving incoming mail and then passing on the relevant information to the person who you are working with at that time. The link between both the physical and spiritual realms.

Like the TV or radio are merely receivers which receive a transmission signal for an individual station. What you the medium do is to set the button to the station that is broadcasting the transmission . You are the receiver, and as such you the receiver must adjust your energy field to receive the more subtle energy of the spirit world. The more you work at this, the better the connection, the better the reception and the more fluent the communication you can receive.

Clairvoyance is perhaps the most well known form of communication with the sprit realms. The term means clear sight. This is the ability to perceive messages in picture form or seeing through the mind's eye. When developing your mediumship this is one of the first ways spirit makes that connection with you.

It’s your job to interpret the meaning they wish to convey. This is called symbology and every person will have their own personal expression and understanding of the pictures presented. Perhaps one of the hardest parts of your development will be to learn your symbolic language, along with understanding its content and just how to decipher the message. Part two of this is to understand when to take the image literally, factual and happening within your sitters life, or symbolically, presented to you and open for your interpretation.

Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP)

Are electronically generated noises that resemble speech, but are supposedly not the result of intentional voice recordings or renderings. Common sources of EVP include static, stray radio transmissions, and background noise. Recordings of EVP are often created from background sound by increasing the gain? (i.e. sensitivity) of the recording equipment?

This is the main argument by skeptics, when using EVP as evidence of the paranormal

What to look for in EVP or any paranormal investigation is intelligence, does the communication respond or react to what you are doing, does it try to interact with you or other sitters.

Paranormal explanations for EVP generally assume the production of EVP by a communicating intelligence, through means other than the typical functioning of communication technologies.

Simply put, is the voice that is recorded creating a sentence? Rather than just sounding like a static recording.

If there is intelligence behind the communication, then this is good evidence to support the phenomenon as genuine.
